Report Claims 100 Million Will Die From Climate Change by 2030

storm-gathering

If no action is taken to address climate change, more than 100 million people could die by 2030.

A new report commissioned by 20 different governments states that more than 100 million people will die by 2030 if nothing is done to tackle climate change. Global economic growth will also be cut by 3.2% of gross domestic product (GDP).

The report was authored by the humanitarian organization DARA. Global temperatures are on the rise due to greenhouse gas emissions. While scientists disagree on mankind’s role in global warming, there’s no denying that record melts at the polar ice caps, extreme weather, drought, and rising sea levels will threaten populations and livelihoods.

Currently, it’s been estimated that about 5 million people die each year from air pollution, hunger, and disease as a result of climate change and carbon-intensive economies. That annual toll will likely rise by 2030 if current patterns of fossil fuel use continue.

More than 90% of these deaths will occur in developing countries. The report calculated the human and economic impact of climate change on 184 countries. The report was commissioned by Climate Vulnerable Forum, a partnership of 20 developing countries threatened by climate change.

“A combined climate-carbon crisis is estimated to claim 100 million lives between now and the end of the next decade,” states the report. Climate change has lowered the global economic output by 1.6%, which is about $1.2 trillion a year. These losses could double by 2030 if global temperatures are allowed to rise. They will surpass 10% before 2100.

Economists have stated that an investment of 2% of the world’s global GDP was needed to limit, prevent, and adapt to climate change. This could reduce global consumption per head by up to 20%. The world’s poorest nations are the most vulnerable, as they are faced with risks of drought, water shortages, crop failures, poverty, and disease. They could see an 11% drop in GDP by 2030.

The USA and China could see a drop of 2.1% off their GDP by 2030, while India could lose more than 5%.

  1. What blatent Bravo Sierra!!! “Humanity”, had better PRAY, for a warmer climate. Crops, will generally grow better. Over the last 100 million years, Earth has been in ICE AGES, for 80% of the time. Modern “civilization”, cannot survive, that. People CAN, move away, from an encroaching coast!
“Governments”, will murder more people, than this “report” claims climate, will!

    • Valerie,
The kind of outlook you present is so out of touch with reality that I dare not even take the time to respond, other than this short note. Please … get more informed before making comments …

      • What an enlightened, informative, objective response from Bob Pashos……. Sorry, I meant “what a CC alarmist cult member”.

Valerie: The “Ice Age” or Pleistocene Epoch lasted from from about 2,588,000 years BP to about 11,700 years BP. Your 100 million years ago takes us well back into the Cretaceous Period when temperatures over much of the world were tropical to subtropical I have practiced geology for more than 50 years. You simply don’t know what you are talking about.

  2. I love how these reports only state the facts that support their position, such as the “record melts at the polar ice caps”, but leave out the facts that argue against them, such as the record breaking expansion of the antarctic ice. The earth has gone through climate cycles long before we were around. Look into ALL the facts and man-made global warming becomes much less definitive. Look into the funding of the studies and research and you can begin to suspect bias in the researchers methods/results. Follow the advice of good detectives and “follow the money trail” and you can see who will benefit the most from these “climate change” scare tactics. I’m not saying mankind isn’t contributing, but the notion that we can stop the climate from changing is absurd and arrogant.

This is an optimistic theory, in reality the collapse will be much sooner and much greater. The earth is warming at an exponential rate and has started to ecologically collapse. We have entered the 6th great extinction, the science is quite clear. Complex civilisation as we know it is about to unwind due to human stupidity. We have committed the greatest crime conceivable, the extinction of a planet and much if not all consciousness. A crime against God or the Universe. Very sad.

It is indeed highly likely that over 90% of 100 million deaths due to climate change effects will be suffered by developing countries by 2050. Yet salvation can come from said countries which are blessed with year-round sun. Here’s one saving vision: Tech-savvy 1st World green companies partner with US, Brazilian and Indian ethanol producers and 3rd world co-ops (the Philippines for one has thousands of A-grade employee co-ops) to set up ethanol distilleries fed by sweet sorghum farms all over the tropics. Gross profits can exceed 50%, so billion-dollar climate funds should agree to finance 75% of project cost due to sure repayment. The same scheme may create thousand-hectare agroforests with export-oriented processing factories, mini hydropower nets, biofuel facilities, geothermal plants, E85 and electric vehicle industries, forest resorts, marine farms with phytoplankton fartilization, and scores of other high-profit, CO2 absorbing and preventing projects throughout the tropics. The joint ventures’ credit worthiness and above-market dividend returns, plus resultant creation of billions of jobs for bottom poor and addressing of wealth disparities thru employee-owned co-ops should assure endless sequestration and prevention of atmospheric CO2 towards pre-industrial rates. The corporate profit motive applied for planetary good should save all humanity from a dreadful end.
