Giant squids (genus Architeuthis) are elusive and massive deep-sea creatures, known for their immense size, with some individuals reaching lengths of up to 12 meters (39 feet) or more. These cephalopods possess large eyes, up to a foot in diameter, which help them detect light in the dark depths of the ocean where they reside, typically at depths of 300 to 1,000 meters (980 to 3,280 feet). Giant squids are known for their long tentacles equipped with suckers, which they use to capture prey, mainly deep-sea fish and other squids. Despite their enormous size, they are rarely observed in their natural habitat, making them one of the most mysterious creatures of the deep ocean.
