Autonomous vehicles, also known as self-driving cars or driverless cars, are vehicles equipped with advanced sensors, cameras, and artificial intelligence (AI) systems that allow them to navigate and operate without human input. These technologies include LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), radar, GPS, odometry, and computer vision, which collectively enable the vehicle to perceive its environment, make decisions, and navigate through complex traffic scenarios. The development of autonomous vehicles aims to increase road safety, reduce traffic congestion, and improve mobility for individuals unable to drive. Different levels of vehicle autonomy range from partial assistance (such as adaptive cruise control) to fully autonomous systems that require no human oversight under certain conditions. While fully autonomous vehicles are still undergoing testing and regulatory review, several semi-autonomous systems are already available in commercial vehicles, offering features like automated braking, lane-keeping assistance, and self-parking. The widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles is expected to significantly transform transportation, urban planning, and daily commuting practices.
