Education is a comprehensive process of facilitating learning, acquiring knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include teaching, training, storytelling, discussion, and directed research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, but learners can also educate themselves in a process called autodidactic learning. Formal education is typically divided into stages such as preschool, primary school, secondary school, and then college, university, or apprenticeship. The right to education has been recognized by the United Nations as a universal human right that should be free and compulsory for all primary education, with progressive availability of secondary and higher education.
