EnVision is an upcoming space mission led by the European Space Agency (ESA) designed to study Venus, our closest planetary neighbor. Scheduled for launch in the early 2030s, the mission aims to understand Venus’s atmosphere, surface, and internal structure to gain insights into the planet’s geological and climatic history. EnVision will employ a suite of sophisticated instruments, including radar to map the surface, spectrometers to analyze the atmosphere, and a radio science experiment to probe the planet’s internal structure and gravity field. By comparing Venus with Earth, EnVision seeks to explore why two planets that likely started with similar conditions have evolved so differently, with Venus hosting a hellish environment with extreme temperatures and dense, toxic atmosphere. This mission follows in the footsteps of previous missions to Venus while complementing the studies conducted by other future missions from NASA and other space agencies.
