Browsing: Chang’e 3 Lander

The Chang’e 3 mission, part of China’s Lunar Exploration Program, marked a significant milestone as it successfully deployed a lander and the Yutu rover on the Moon in December 2013. This mission made China the third country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon and the first to do so since the Soviet Luna 24 mission in 1976. The Chang’e 3 lander was equipped with a variety of scientific instruments designed to conduct geological and astronomical observations. It carried a UV telescope to observe galaxies, stars, and Earth’s plasmasphere, and its landing site in Mare Imbrium (the Sea of Rains) provided a strategic position for these observations. The lander also examined the lunar regolith and investigated the Moon’s surface composition. Chang’e 3 significantly contributed to our understanding of the Moon, demonstrating advanced technology and capabilities in space exploration for China.
