Browsing: Velociraptors

Velociraptors were small, carnivorous dinosaurs that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 75 to 71 million years ago. Known for their agility and sharp claws, particularly the large, curved claw on each hind foot, Velociraptors were likely swift and efficient predators. Despite their portrayal in popular media as large, intelligent pack hunters, actual Velociraptors were much smaller, about the size of a turkey, and there is limited evidence to suggest they hunted in packs. They were likely covered in feathers, which aligns with their close relationship to modern birds. Fossils of Velociraptors have been primarily found in Mongolia, providing insight into their anatomy, behavior, and environment. Their name, meaning “swift thief,” reflects their presumed predatory nature and agility.
