Free University of Brussels News

The Free University of Brussels, originally founded in 1834, is now split into two separate entities: the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), which teaches in French, and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), which teaches in Dutch. The split occurred in 1970 due to linguistic tensions in Belgium. Both institutions uphold the original university’s legacy of free inquiry and secularism, each becoming prominent research universities. ULB and VUB offer a wide range of programs across various disciplines such as humanities, sciences, social sciences, and medicine, emphasizing their strong international focus and commitment to academic freedom.
