Chimpanzees, scientifically known as Pan troglodytes, are great apes native to the forests and savannahs of sub-Saharan Africa. They are among the closest living relatives to humans, sharing about 98% of our DNA. Chimpanzees are highly social animals, living in communities that can consist of dozens of individuals organized in complex social structures. They exhibit a wide range of sophisticated behaviors, including tool use, hunting cooperatively, and even engaging in warfare against rival groups. Their diet is omnivorous, consisting of fruits, nuts, seeds, insects, and occasionally meat. Chimpanzees also have a notable ability to communicate through vocalizations, gestures, and facial expressions. Conservation efforts are critical for them as their populations are threatened by habitat loss, poaching, and disease.
