“Code Red” – Scientists Warn That Climate Change Has Pushed Earth’s Vital Signs To Record Extremes

Global Warming Planet Earth Fire Concept

A coalition of scientists says the Earth’s vital signs have reached “code red” and that “humanity is unequivocally facing a climate emergency.”

An international coalition led by Oregon State University (OSU) researchers released a new report that says the Earth’s vital signs have reached “code red” and that “humanity is unequivocally facing a climate emergency.” The report was published on October 26 in the journal BioScience.

In the special report, “World Scientists’ Warning of a Climate Emergency 2022,” the authors note that 16 of 35 planetary vital signs they use to track climate change are at record extremes. The report’s authors share new data illustrating the increasing frequency of extreme heat events, greater prevalence of the mosquito-borne dengue virus, and rising global tree cover loss because of fires. Further, they note that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have reached 418 parts per million (0.04%), the highest on record.

William Ripple, a distinguished professor in the OSU College of Forestry, and postdoctoral researcher Christopher Wolf are the lead authors of the report. Ten other U.S. and global scientists are co-authors.

“Look at all of these heat waves, fires, floods, and massive storms,” Ripple said. “The specter of climate change is at the door and pounding hard.”

The report follows by five years the “World Scientists’ Warning to Humanity: A Second Notice” published by Ripple and colleagues in BioScience and co-signed by more than 15,000 scientists in 184 countries.

“As we can see by the annual surges in climate disasters, we are now in the midst of a major climate crisis, with far worse to come if we keep doing things the way we’ve been doing them,” Wolf said.

“Climate change is not a standalone issue,” said co-author Saleemul Huq of Independent University Bangladesh. “To avoid more untold human suffering, we need to protect nature, eliminate most fossil fuel emissions and support socially just climate adaptations with a focus on low-income areas that are most vulnerable.”

The report points out that in the three decades since more than 1,700 scientists signed the original “World Scientists’ Warning to Humanity” in 1992, global greenhouse gas emissions have increased by 40%.

“As Earth’s temperatures are creeping up, the frequency or magnitude of some types of climate disasters may actually be leaping up,” said the University of Sydney’s Thomas Newsome, a co-author of the report. “We urge our fellow scientists around the world to speak out on climate change.”

  1. One would think that COP27 was in session and they need to have alarm bells rung — Oh, wait. It is taking place.

There has been no statistically significant global warming for over 8 years: https://wattsupwiththat.com/2022/11/03/the-new-pause-lengthens-to-8-years-1-month/

There is little evidence to support the claim that heat waves in the US are becoming worse: https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/09/06/the-gestalt-of-heat-waves/

Have you posted your assessment of the IPCC Climate Change warnings?
I will check out your posts.
Are you following the U.S. Senate and congress inquiry into the concern the FF Corporations and their financiers communicated minsinfo about climate change? As is the UN.
Or the campaign to prosecute env atrocities acts of ecocide? @StopEcocideInternational

  2. Just more screaming and hype that “the sky is falling” this in an effort to get money and power to suppress human rights and freedoms. I’m not buying it !!

  3. A pathetic attempt to prop up alarmist predictions made five years ago which have turned out to be as wildly inaccurate as most of the others made by climate change cultists.
Just as with medicine, the science of climate change is being twisted to meet the agenda of vested globalist interests with the clout and cash to enforce the flawed official narrative.

  4. In-flight data shows minus 84 degrees at 35,000 ft.
    No warming here.

  5. Okay well we grow vegetables hetin the south and fyi this year was the worse for heat related damaged so think about that if we’re burning up our crops where the food coming gr🤔

    • Weather is what happens day-to-day. Climate is the average of weather over decades. There have been crop failures since Man began agriculture. That is why the ancient Egyptians and other cultures built granaries to store cereals, to guard against bad years. What is important is what happens over a period of years.

So you don’t believe in climate change. Okay so how do you explain the Mississippi River drying up drought across the West and people starving because they don’t have enough food? Smoke drifting as far as Washington DC from California? And everything is a conspiracy from the Democrats who might help us a little bit? The news media are all liars? And Donald Trump is a nice guy? The billionaires are not robbing us? Starving refugees are fake news? Our country is not going broke?

    • “… how do you explain the Mississippi River drying up drought across the West and people starving …”

Climate is changing all the time! I’d explain the Mississippi the same way that I’d explain the rocks in European rivers being exposed with engravings showing previous medieval low-water levels. Nobody is starving along the Mississippi. Places where people ARE starving is a result of the subsistence farming populations growing during good years and exceeding the long-term carrying capacity of the land.

Surely you left out some catastrophes such as increased suicide rates, out of control drug overdose deaths, and the heart break of psoriasis. Oh, and then there is Monkey Pox.

  7. So many don’t believe I’m climate change but it’s real and it’s a serious issue. The earth is warming much faster than expected. It’s worrisome.

  8. this so called greenhouse warming climate change is a big hoax. a big factor of this hoax is elon and his tesla treehuggermobiles. plus this hype about raising licestock is causing greenhouse warming is a hoax also thats just to help them tofu eating animal worshipers with their sorry agenda

  9. I believe in what they are telling us .we need to fight back and stop all car and everything else that making our world to die.you people need to weak up and listen to the people about our world 🌎 believe in what they are doing for us.stop car and everything else.

  10. Enter into the twilight zone, the end time has started! If your hearts ain’t right and you don’t believe? Whoops, can’t say what’ll happen to some of y’all but hope to see ya on the other side… Blessings, peace out baby….. Martymar84

  11. I’ve studied the bible for a little bit and do know that what’s happening here my friends is this. Calamity is coming whether it be from climate, supernatural, or cosmic it’s ain’t gonna get better, just continually worse. Better buckleup and strapup cause it’s coming and there’s gonna be alota crash dummys…mark my word no not mine,, prepare ye for the end and repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!

Did the Bible tell you why God created cancer, dementia?

      • Or an appendix? Or why, when we were supposedly created in the image of God, there are two distinctly different versions, one clearly extroverted in form, the other introverted?
