NASA’s Massive Rocket Rolls Out: Artemis II SLS Core Stage Arrives for Assembly
The Artemis II mission’s SLS core stage has been transported to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, where it will be integrated with other flight hardware like…
The Space Launch System (SLS) is a powerful, advanced launch vehicle designed by NASA to enable deep space exploration missions. It is a part of NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon and eventually carry them to Mars and beyond. The SLS is the most powerful rocket ever built, surpassing even the Saturn V used during the Apollo missions in terms of payload capacity. Its design features a central core stage with four RS-25 engines, flanked by two solid rocket boosters. The rocket is intended to be flexible and evolvable, capable of launching crewed spacecraft, including the Orion capsule, as well as large payloads to various destinations in outer space. The first uncrewed test flight of the SLS, known as Artemis I, serves as a foundational step in testing the integrated system’s performance in actual mission conditions before carrying astronauts.
