    Abstract Cyber Data Transfer Concept
An experiment has been designed that could confirm the fifth state of matter in the universe — and change physics as we know it. If proven correct, it would show that information is the fifth form of matter, alongside solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. In fact, information could be the elusive dark matter that makes up almost a third of the universe.

New Experiment Could Confirm the Fifth Element

An experiment that could confirm the fifth state of matter in the universe — and change physics as we know it — has been published in a new research paper from the University of Portsmouth in England.

Dr. Melvin Vopson, a physicist, has already published findings indicating that information has mass and that all elementary particles, the universe’s smallest known building blocks, store information about themselves, similar to the way humans have DNA.

Information as the Fifth Form of Matter

Now he has designed an experiment — which if proved correct — means he will have discovered that information is the fifth form of matter, alongside solid, liquid, gas, and plasma.

Dr. Vopson said: “This would be a eureka moment because it would change physics as we know it and expand our understanding of the universe. But it wouldn’t conflict with any of the existing laws of physics.

“It doesn’t contradict quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics, or classical mechanics. All it does is complement physics with something new and incredibly exciting.”

    The Physical Mass of Information

Dr. Vopson’s previous research suggests that information is the fundamental building block of the universe and has physical mass.

He even claims that information could be the elusive dark matter that makes up almost a third of the universe.

He said: “If we assume that information is physical and has mass, and that elementary particles have a DNA of information about themselves, how can we prove it? My latest paper is about putting these theories to the test so they can be taken seriously by the scientific community.”

Dr. Vopson’s experiment proposes how to detect and measure the information in an elementary particle by using particle-antiparticle collision.

    Measuring Information Content in Particles

He said: “The information in an electron is 22 million times smaller than the mass of it, but we can measure the information content by erasing it.

“We know that when you collide a particle of matter with a particle of antimatter, they annihilate each other. And the information from the particle has to go somewhere when it’s annihilated.”

The annihilation process converts all the remaining mass of the particles into energy, typically gamma photons. Any particles containing information are converted into low-energy infrared photons.

In the study, Dr. Vopson predicts the exact energy of the infrared photons resulting from erasing the information.

Dr. Vopson believes his work could demonstrate how information is a key component of everything in the universe and a new field of physics research could emerge.

The paper is published in the journal AIP Advances.

Imagine that, our whole reality is actually a quantum computer & rules of QM are actually its operation/computation rules! (& this is actually the only true/correct interpretation/meaning of QM!)

& realize, that would also imply/mean, each quantum particle is actually a set of quantum computer state registers/variables (to make computations w/)!

For example, realize, electric charge & rest mass & color charge of each elementary particle could be just a qutrit (in that particle) that can have one of 3 values: +1, 0, -1.

& so, realize, what needs to be done (by theoretical physicists) is, to determine how many state qutrits each elementary particle has & how exactly they are used in computations (like when particles interact/decay), by our reality quantum computer!

If information is dark matter, wouldn’t its distribution be exactly correlated with that of conventional matter? AS I understand it, there are some galaxies that seem to be deficient in dark matter. If this is true,is there actually less information per baryon in such a galaxy?

Whether or not matter has associated information, it seems incorrect to call it “the fifth state.” Perhaps it is a property, but not a state like solid, liquid etc. The latter would imply that matter can undergo a phase transition from any of these states to information, and from information to any of these states. Calling information a “fifth state” sounds cool but is a category error.

Solid point. Not to mention, the fifth state of matter is already taken; the Bose Einstein Condensate, lol.

If info has mass, what happens when I copy-n-paste? Or whisper a secret. Or see the first star I see tonight?

Mass changes in the device pasted to, mass (energy) is transferred to the air, mass of brain increases with each memory (a nearly imperceivablly small amount)

        For copy/paste:
“In electronic storage: Adding information to RAM, SSDs, flash memory, etc. — that is, storing a 1, instead of a 0 — requires storing an electric charge. Each electron has a very small weight (something like 9.10938215 × 10−31 kg), so adding electrons does mean adding a tiny amount of weight.

How much weight? To get a real-world answer, you have to make assumptions about how many electrons constitute a useful charge-state for whatever device you’re talking about, but one calculation says that 1GB of flash memory completely filled with 1s weighs something like 729 femtograms more than the same memory filled with zeros.

A femtogram is tinier than tiny: 0.000000000000001 kg.”

Whispering a secret: mechanical energy (vibration) is added to air particles. If you combine antiparticle with air particles, the vibrational information would remain.

        Seeing the first star:
This information is encoded in brain tissue as a memory. As similar to the first answer, those electrons in your brain contain that information. If you could take every single particle of brain matter and colide it with antiparticle, the raw information would be revealed about every memory you have ever had (and information about where those particles were before they were brain tissue). Interpreting that information would obviously be much more difficult. But according to this paper, it is there as a permanent part of the universe.

KvZ made the crucial point. A property, not a state. Also skeptical that this describes dark matter. But it’s interesting. I’ll follow. Would like to see a thorough description of the experiment proposed. Maybe a follow up article?

You just did it. You turned information into energy by viewing it , processing it, and posting this question. And now an equal but opposite post, newton’s law. Energy is all around us, even when you do nothing, your still using energy. Right

Information is the 5th state of matter. Don’t try to see it. This information is about knowing it’s there, or not there. If there’s no information, then that sounds allot like dark matter. What if Dark matter collects some information? Now it’s sounding allot like a black hole.i like it, this makes sense, mathematics, numbers, measurements, information is words, or knowledge, maybe even just knowing, is the next physics. Consciousness, could very well be, like when we view entangled elements, only then is when they choose a state. Until they are viewed, they remain boh. there might not even be a way to define the next physics, but it may be something that’s just accepted, and can’t be defined. Just like conciseness. Maybe once you accept this, your mind will open up a whole new world. Maybe we not supposed to know everything. That’s our downfall, trying to know and understand everything. Hofully we finally get the James Webb Telescope pointing at the beginning of everything, and now we are finally viewing it, and what happens at that moment , does our universe behave like an entangled part? So we view the big bang, and it changes, and so does the universe around us. We can never unsee it. You have now entered a Galaxy known as, the twilight galaxy……..doooo, doo, doooo ,doooo. I’ve got allot to learn I know. Peace out y’all!

In the Bible the verse about “in the beginning was the word” the word is information. God’s information that forms everything.

To be honest with all opinions, theories, and beliefs regarding “the fifth state of matter”. Does weight determine which state of matter it’s classified as? No. Does the amount of energy determine which state of matter something is classified as? Arguably no. Clearly the amount of “dark matter” and/or “anti matter” does not determine which state of matter anything is. What does all states of current matter have in common with one another? Hint,, It’s the same thing that allows everything in the universe to exist in the state it is in. “Gravity”. Without it matter ceases to exist, especially since there would be zero ability to measure it because we would not have any information able to transfer, collect, store, use, etc. So unless information can somehow be influenced by gravity to form actual matter it is not the fifth state of matter. It’s just a far reaching quantum theorist who is trying to wrap his head around a scientific genre that’s got everyone in a state of awe and willing to take shots in the dark so that people like us can discuss them in chat rooms to see who’s got time on their hands to try and sound smarter than the person who actually posted the article. Thanks for reading good day.

This is actually a very ancient concept found in THE TORAH( the hebrew bible) it is a fundamental belief in orthodox judaism,, that GD created reality from using the aleph-beit,in which every letter has information and descrives the reality created from it 🕎

Yes, yes, yes but where does the information or DNA comes from? Let me hypothesise. There was absolute nothingness, which out of boredom of eons, or chance, arises the urge to create, but it can only be out of nothingness, just like whirls of nothingness, similar to spiralling of galaxies. Once created, say +1, it left a void, say -1, which in turn created another +1, and a spiralling never-ending process, always almost returning to the point of origin. This created an imaginary world and with time, each creation assumes a symbolic meaning, leading to infinite possibilities. We have access to this imaginary world when we invent or just use our imagination. One particular law of Newton’s, third law of motion, made part of the imaginary world a reality, starting from a point which progresses through each dimension at various limit
points of infinities to generate the particles and hence the DNA or information, that is, 1, 2 …, first straight line, then circles, then spherical particles. So, light with its constant velocity comes after being stationary, and then mass with its acceleration comes next, and so on (I use a different definition of dimension). Quantum physics of particles occur near the limits of infinities, leaving room for surprises! Read books on I Ching for ideas.

If time exists, does it have mass?

      Reply
      • JW on May 6, 2022 10:26 pm

The mass of time could be gravity. The idea of does time exist has two types of time in the Greek language. One is chronology the passage and measure of time passing. The other type of time is being in an endless moment, a quality to remember. A different way of measuring time. Kronos gives us chronology and Kairos is the quality of time. Taken from creativity-portal: Kronos is the time of clocks and calendars; it can be quantified and measured. Kronos is linear, moving inexorably out of the determinate past toward the determined future, and has no freedom. Kairos is numinous time. Kairos is a time of festivals and fantasies; it cannot be controlled or possessed. So maybe Kronos since it can be measured has mass but Kairos includes fantasy and festivals so it may be part of the imaginary number set of measuring the mass of time.
