Expert: Stop Global Roll Out of 5G Networks Until Safety Is Confirmed

5G Technology Concept

The increased transmitter density for 5G exposes more people to potentially harmful radio frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs). An expert advises caution and calls for a halt to the global rollout of 5G until its safety is thoroughly confirmed.

Transmitter density means greater population exposure to high levels of radio frequency electromagnetic fields.

We should err on the side of caution and stop the global rollout of 5G (fifth generation) telecoms networks until we are certain this technology is completely safe, urges an expert in an opinion piece published online in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health.

There are no health concerns about 5G and COVID-19, despite what conspiracy theorists have suggested.

But the transmitter density required for 5G means that more people will be exposed to radio frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs), and at levels that emerging evidence suggests, are potentially harmful to health, argues Professor John William Frank, Usher Institute, University of Edinburgh.

The advent of 5G technology has been hailed by governments and certain vested interests as transformative, promising clear economic and lifestyle benefits, through massively boosting wireless and mobile connectivity at home, work, school, and in the community, he says.

But it has become the subject of fierce controversy, fuelled by four key areas of scientific uncertainty and concern.

The lack of clarity about precisely what technology is included in 5G; and a growing but far from comprehensive body of laboratory research indicating the biologically disruptive potential of RF-EMFs

An almost total lack (as yet) of high quality epidemiological studies of the impact on human health from 5G EMF exposure

Mounting epidemiological evidence of such effects from previous generations of RF-EMF exposure at lower levels

Persistent allegations that some national telecoms regulatory authorities haven’t based their RF-EMF safety policies on the latest science, amid potential conflicts of interest

5G uses much higher frequency (3 to 300GHz) radio waves than in the past and it makes use of very new — and relatively unevaluated, in terms of safety—supportive technology to enable this higher data transmission capacity, points out Professor Frank.

Its inherent fragility means that transmission boosting ‘cell’ antennae are generally required every 100-300 m — which is far more spatially dense than the transmission masts required for older 2G, 3G, and 4G technology, using lower frequency waves, he says.

A dense transmission network is also required to achieve the ‘everywhere/anytime’ connectivity promised by 5G developers.

Existing 4G systems can service up to 4,000 radio frequency-using devices per square kilometer; 5G systems will connect up to one million devices per square kilometer — greatly increasing the speed of data transfer (by a factor of 10) and the volume of data transmitted (by a factor of 1000), he explains.

While several major reviews of the existing evidence on the potential health harms of 5G have been published over the past decade, these have been of “varying scientific quality,” suggests Professor Frank.

And they have not stopped the clamor from “a growing number of engineers, scientists, and doctors internationally…calling on governments to raise their safety standards for RF-EMFs, commission more and better research, and hold off on further increases in public exposure, pending clearer evidence of safety,” he writes.

Permitted maximum safety limits for RF-EMF exposure vary considerably around the world, he points out.

What’s more, ‘5G systems’ is not a consistently defined term, comprising quite different specific technologies and components.

“It is highly likely that each of these many forms of transmission causes somewhat different biological effects — making sound, comprehensive, and up-to-date research on those effects virtually impossible,” he explains.

Recent reviews of lab data on RF-EMFs indicate that exposures can produce wide-ranging effects, including reproductive, fetal, oncological, neuropsychiatric, skin, eye, and immunological. But there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to suggest that it is implicated in the spread of COVID-19, as some conspiracy theorists have suggested, he emphasizes.

“There are knowledgeable commentators’ reports on the web debunking this theory, and no respectable scientist or publication has backed it,” he says, adding: “The theory that 5G and related EMFs have contributed to the pandemic is baseless.”

But for the current 5G roll-out, there’s a sound basis for invoking ‘the precautionary principle’ because of significant doubts about the safety of a new and potentially widespread human exposure, which should be reason enough “to call a moratorium on that exposure, pending adequate scientific investigation of its suspected adverse health effects,” he says.

There is no compelling public health or safety rationale for the rapid deployment of 5G, he insists. The main gains being promised are either economic, and then possibly for some more than for others, or related to increased consumer convenience, he suggests.

“Until we know more about what we are getting into, from a health and ecological point of view, those putative gains need to wait,” he concludes.

  1. The subtitle, originaly published in BMJ, is missing : Essay

  2. For a scientist (or anyone, for that matter) to say that 5G technology can affect overall health and the immune system, yet has absolutely nothing to do with infections such as COVID 19, and to call that predisposition hypothesis “conspiracy theories”, is utterly absurd.

    • There cannot possibly be a correlation between the SARS-CoV2 outbreak and 5G rollout if the 5G rollout has not happened in countries affected by the virus e.g. France.

      • Actually, there are four 5G carriers in France, and a fifth — Orange — aims to have a national network running by the end of this year.

In any case, virtually no one is arguing that Covid-19 appeared as a result of 5G. What needs to be investigated urgently is whether exposure to RF-EMFs impedes our ability to fight off such viruses naturally.

  3. I find it utterly absurd how it is in fact a high possibility that it is the towers putting off to much radiation along with all the symptoms for Coronavirus are the same as having radiation poisoning how do you explain that in! a month after we got them in the whole world starts getting sick. The (virus/bacteria) infected of whole world in a very short amount of time which is impossible to even explain how fat it impacted everybody in such a quick manner, explain that to me I want to know more I want to know why scientists and doctors are not trying as if they already know the TRUTH! If it really was a (bacterial/VIRUS) they(doctors and scientist) would be more looking into it and not laughing at what is a most likely factor that has back to back evidence of COVID 19 being radiation posioning. We are supposed to trust our government but the truth is coming out. I hope everyone can do you own research and add stuff up. Watch whats littery right in our faces its sad.

      The SARS-CoV2 outbreak is global

The 5G rollout is not global.

This simple fact categorically disproves a connection between the two.

    • Doctors not only know the causative agent for COVID-19, for which the disease has been named, but they can differentiate between mutated strains. The vaccine and other tailored drugs would not be effective if they were treating the wrong cause for COVID-19. Occam’s Razor suggests to accept the simplest explanation for a phenomena, that inventing other explanations is unnecessary.

Think about things before running down the street, waving your hands, and crying out, “The sky is falling!”

How can you be sure that COVID-19 isn’t really from ‘chem trails’ or aliens secretly trying to remove humans so that they can take over? Or, that it is a bad batch of Pixie dust? Need I go on?

Delay the “roll out” or market introduction of anything that can make a profit for investors while injuring people? Seriously? Has that ever happene4d in the U.S? It’s in the Constitution: Profits before People

  5. @ Mystic

yea, the Covid viruses surf on G5 waves directly into your nose.

  6. Read the book The Invisible Rainbow, it will open your eyes!

We are fundamentally electric beings. It should not surprise us that exposing our biology to unnatural frequencies in increasing densities will make some of us really sick.

It’s clear “Covid” the disease is not caused by any coronavirus, novel or otherwise. Coronaviruses are only EVER active (in the northern hemisphere) between jan-april. They do not persist all year. They do not happen simultaneously in all climate zones and all seasons all over the world. NEVER. No virus has ever EVER occurred in waves. Whatever is happening, it is not happening because of a virus.

This could very easily be 5G. The truth is that as we have no meters for testing the very high energy that 5g towers can produce, we have no idea when and where they were turned on, so it’s no use saying they don’t correlate – plenty of places do correlate too, like the regions where there were greatest deaths in Italy. But that also correlates with where the greatest number of old people got the flu shot as well. Perhaps they are harmful in a synergistic way. Perhaps they are not.

The reason governments are spending billions on rolling out 5G, is not so we can download movies from lockdown in 5 seconds instead of 10, it’s so they can track and trace and control every detail of our lives without needing police out in the street, without needing manpower of any kind. It will be simple, once the economy is utterly destroyed, they will have us all on UBI, then if you leave the small area you are allowed to move around in or say something that isn’t on message on the internet, they can just delete your bank account or the food vouchers we will be forced to live on by then – paper money will be long gone, for reasons of hygiene of course…

It’s up to us. Will we allow this to happen or will we remember who we are – born free endowed by the creator with certain inalienable rights… We can give away our freedom any time we want to of course, that is also our right. But if we do, it won’t be so easy to take it back.

You said, “But that also correlates with where the greatest number of old people got the flu shot as well.” First off, correlation does not establish causation. Do you have any hard evidence that it was only, or even mostly, people who got flu shots that got COVID-19?

It is times like this that I remember that more than half of the adult population have IQs less than 100.

You claimed, “Coronaviruses are only EVER active (in the northern hemisphere) between jan-april.” Why should anyone believe a person who doesn’t even get her facts right? We didn’t shut down everything until the end of March, which comes right before April. The number of cases and deaths continued through the Summer, and then the second wave hit well before January of 2021!

  9. Without sufficient research into the effect of RF-EMFs upon the human metabolism, especially any detriment caused to our natural immunities against infection, it cannot be stated with certainly that the growth in 5G has not played some part in the current pandemic.

    • SG
Is there any evidence that those working around radar, cell towers, or other sources of EMF experience higher rates of infection than the general public? What is the proposed mechanism for lowering immunity?

If there is no evidence of special ability of short-wavelength EMF to do anything besides warm my cup of tea, or that there is a reasonable physical mechanism that could be expected to have deleterious effects, then research is unwarranted.

One should use the Precautionary Principle with care when there is little reason to have concern.

  10. 5G is the pandemic.
