VIRGO is a gravitational wave detector located near Pisa, Italy. It is part of a collaborative network of observatories around the world designed to detect and analyze gravitational waves. These waves are ripples in the fabric of spacetime caused by some of the most violent and energetic processes in the Universe such as collisions between black holes or neutron stars.
