The American College of Physicians (ACP) is a national organization of internists—physician specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness. Founded in 1915, the ACP is one of the largest medical-specialty organizations and the second-largest physician group in the United States. Its membership includes internists, internal medicine subspecialists, medical students, residents, and fellows. The ACP is dedicated to enhancing the quality and effectiveness of health care by fostering excellence and professionalism in the practice of medicine. It offers educational resources, develops clinical standards and guidelines, and advocates on behalf of internal medicine professionals and their patients on important healthcare issues. The organization also publishes “Annals of Internal Medicine,” one of the most highly regarded peer-reviewed medical journals.
