Arthritis is a common condition characterized by inflammation of one or more joints, leading to pain and stiffness that typically worsen with age. There are several types of arthritis, with osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) being the most prevalent. Osteoarthritis involves wear-and-tear damage to joint’s cartilage, which is the cushioning material at the ends of bones. As the cartilage wears down, bone grinds directly on bone, causing pain and restricted movement. Rheumatoid arthritis, on the other hand, is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the lining of the joint capsule, a tough membrane that encloses all the joint parts. This inflammation can eventually lead to joint erosion and may damage other parts of the body as well.
