The Johnson Space Center (JSC) is NASA’s primary center for human spaceflight training, research, and flight control, located in Houston, Texas. Established in 1961 as the Manned Spacecraft Center, it was renamed in 1973 in honor of President Lyndon B. Johnson. JSC is home to the Mission Control Center, which has been pivotal in managing all of NASA’s manned space missions, from the Gemini and Apollo missions, including the historic Apollo 11 moon landing, to the Space Shuttle and International Space Station (ISS) operations. The center also oversees the training of astronauts, development of advanced human exploration systems, and research in human performance and space medicine. JSC plays a crucial role in NASA’s ongoing missions and future endeavors to explore outer space, including planned missions to Mars and continued exploration of the lunar surface.
