Lenses News

Lenses are transparent optical devices used to refract, or bend, light rays in order to form images. They are typically made from glass or plastic and come in various shapes, such as convex (curving outward), which converge light rays, or concave (curving inward), which diverge them. Lenses are fundamental in a myriad of applications, ranging from corrective eyewear to enhance vision, to cameras and telescopes for capturing and magnifying images, to lasers and optical instruments used in scientific research. The behavior of light as it passes through a lens is governed by principles of geometric optics, particularly the lensmaker’s equation, which relates the curvature of the lens surfaces, the refractive index of the lens material, and the focal length of the lens, determining how the lens focuses light.
