Organ Transplant News

Organ transplants are medical procedures in which an organ is removed from one body and placed in the body of a recipient, to replace a damaged or missing organ. The most commonly transplanted organs are the kidney, liver, heart, lungs, pancreas, and intestine. Transplants are critical treatments for end-stage organ failure and certain conditions that cause irreversible organ damage. The success of these procedures depends on various factors, including the type of organ, the health of the donor and recipient, and the compatibility between them. Despite the challenges of organ rejection, where the recipient’s immune system attacks the transplanted organ, advances in immunosuppressive drugs have significantly improved success rates. Organ transplantation raises complex ethical, social, and logistical issues, including the need for donor organs which far exceeds the available supply.
