Senses are the physiological capacities of organisms that provide data for perception. Humans have five traditional senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste, which help in detecting light, sound, pressure, odor, and flavor, respectively. These senses are mediated by specialized organs such as the eyes, ears, skin, nose, and tongue, and are connected to the brain, which processes the information they collect. Additionally, humans have other senses that regulate internal functions, such as balance (vestibular sense), temperature (thermoception), pain (nociception), and body position (proprioception). These sensory systems are crucial for interaction with the environment, enabling responses to changes and facilitating survival and behavior. Each sensory system has specific receptors and neural pathways designed to detect and interpret different stimuli, allowing a detailed and nuanced perception of the world around us.
