Giant Magellan Telescope

The Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) is a next-generation observatory currently under construction in the Atacama Desert of Chile. Set to be one of the largest telescopes in the world, it features a unique design with seven 8.4-meter mirrors arranged to work in concert, creating a telescope with an effective aperture of 24.5 meters. The GMT is designed to provide unprecedented resolution and sensitivity, allowing astronomers to study phenomena such as the formation of stars, galaxies, and planetary systems, and to potentially directly image exoplanets. Its completion is eagerly anticipated in the astronomy community for its potential to advance our understanding of the universe.
