Resting on the tail of the Great Bear in the constellation of Ursa Major, lies NGC 5585, a spiral galaxy that is more than it appears.

The many stars, and dust and gas clouds that make up NGC 5585, shown here in this Hubble image, contribute only a small fraction of the total mass of the galaxy. As in many galaxies, this discrepancy can be explained by the abundant yet seemingly invisible presence of dark matter.

The stellar disc of the galaxy extends over 35,000 light-years across. When compared with galaxies of a similar shape and size, NGC 5585 stands out by having a notably different composition: Contributing to the total mass of the galaxy, it contains a far higher proportion of dark matter.

Hotspots of star formation can be seen along the galaxy’s faint spiral arms. These regions shine a brilliant blue, contrasting strikingly against the ever-black background of space.

Dark Matter is out there, all right, but why don’t we see it? One possibility, from a view of String Theory, is that Dark Matter appears to us as an effect of string/anti-string annihilations. As you may know, quantum mechanics requires that strings must be formed as pairs in the quantum foam – a string and an anti-string – that immediately annihilate each other. Quantum mechanics also requires both the string and anti-string to be surrounded by “jitters” that reduce their monstrous vibrating energies. What if this jitter remains for a fraction of an instant after their string/anti-string annihilations? This temporary jitter would be seen by us as matter for that instant before it too returns to the foam. That’s why we never see it – the “mass” lasts only for that instant but is repeated over and over and over, all over. Specifics on this can be found in my YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N84yISQvGCk

I don’t understand how Science can say this Galaxy has more Dark matter than most when nobody can see the Dark matter.
      Can someone clarify please .

The fermilab folks do an amazing job at explaining these concepts. Dr. Don Lincoln, the guy in this video, has another little series called subatomic stories where they also reach into the realm of dark matter. Its all amazing stuff and worth watching. It will explain a ton, and then make you ask more questions then you every thought you could.

I second this. I have no mathematical or physics background, but this stuff fascinates me. Don Lincoln and PBS’s Spacetime on youtube do a great job of translating these subjects for lay people.

If gravity is essentially compactification of spacetime could not dark matter be quantum flux spin components. Each shopping compresses ST along the membrane of spin. The discrepancy between QM value for flux and relativity is that QM huge value is gross activity and relativity gives the net value.

Is dark matter the absence of gravity. It just seems like we are being pulled together instead of being pushed.

I consider dark matter as the luminous aether of our time, except that it is non-luminous. Sherlock Holmes remarked “It is a capital mistake to
theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.” (Scandal in Bohemia) Dark matter and dark energy are needed to support the “standard model”, which is a theory. It’s exciting to know that there is much to be discovered.

Hi, my name is Dale Clayton Estey, I am one of gods sons on earth,I am the one that told you all about the black holes in space. God talks to me and shows me what I want to know about,I am his chosen one that he sends his knowledge to so that we can advance our technologies here on earth.God has come to me and told me who he was and has shown me what most of everything is in the heavens above. He gives me whatever I want to know about, he is doing this for me to profit off of, not for somebody to steal my information that he provides to me for profiting off of,he tells me and shows me so that we can advance in technologies as well,it’s for our nation. I can tell you exactly what you are looking at in this picture you have here about dark matter.I also know where it leads to,so that would be my discover,I like astronomy and that’s what God is showing me now, along with spaceships and how the gods of the heavens travel, again, this is my discovery, everything you want to know about, I could possibly have your answers. I am gods chosen one here on earth, and he came to me to tell me who he was and he also came to me to make me wealthy here on earth, he knows what your thinking and he knows what your doing,I have answers.

Daley Clayton Estey, why would God speak, and answer, to an earthling, when He is all knowing, almighty and all seeing??? He can alert mankind in so many ways, more effectively than using a psychotic, idiotic, child such as yourself… after all, He created the universe…in seven days no doubt!!!! You are just like every other of the 7 billion + souls here, pawns to be played with and manipulated into annihilating each other and this planet. His planet, I might add. That said, please , for all of us on Earth, get back on your meds and stop smoking crack…its rotting your brain and making you hallucinate…again!!!

I think that the discrepancy in the amount of matter in the universe is easily explained. We say there should be more matter in the universe because of the way matter affects gravity. But what if gravity is a property of a higher dimension?
Look at it like this, the first dimension is mathematically described as a line between two points. The second dimension is a plane connecting two lines. The third dimension is a cube connecting multiple planes. When you look at it, every point in the first dimension is present in the second dimension and every point in the second dimension is present in the third dimension. We experience the fourth dimension as time. So every point in the third dimension is present in the fourth dimension. Meaning that everything that exists, everything that has existed, and everything that will exist is present in the fourth dimension. If gravity is a property of all the matter that has existed, does exist, and will exist, then gravity is a property of a higher dimension. We just experience it here in the third dimension similarly as we experience time.

Right, that’s a lot of dark matter that can’t be detected alright, and a lot of dark energy that can’t b measured too… and it totally makes sense if you consider the dark theory that can’t be proven…

      There is no dark matter.
The newton gravity formula is just true for Immobile matter
But this formula is false for moving matter.
The theory of kinematic gravity answers many questions in astrophysics.
