Disease Theory Shakeup: How Hidden Viruses in Nematodes Could Rewrite Textbooks

    Parasitic Worm (Ascaris nematode)
Recent research indicates that viruses found in parasitic nematodes may be responsible for severe health issues like epilepsy and stunted growth, rather than the nematodes themselves. This finding could lead to more effective disease treatments.

Cutting-edge research has revealed that nematodes, parasites affecting millions globally, carry numerous unknown viruses, potentially causing severe diseases.

This discovery could transform the treatment and understanding of nematode-induced illnesses, highlighting a direct link between these viruses and debilitating health conditions.

    Groundbreaking Research in Parasitic Nematodes

A new study has found that parasitic nematodes, responsible for infecting more than a billion people globally, carry viruses that may solve the puzzle of why some cause serious diseases.

Research led by Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) used cutting-edge bioinformatic data mining techniques to identify 91 RNA viruses in 28 species of parasitic nematodes, representing 70% of those that infect people and animals. Often these are symptomless or not serious, but some can lead to severe, life-changing disease.

Nematode worms are the most abundant animals on the planet, prevalent in all continents worldwide, with several species infecting humans as well as agriculturally and economically important animals and crops. And yet in several cases, scientists do not know how some nematodes cause certain diseases.

Implications for Disease Understanding and Treatment

The new research, published in Nature Microbiology, opens the door to further study of whether these newly discovered viruses – only five of which were previously known to science – could contribute to many chronic, debilitating conditions. If a connection can be proven, it could pave the way for more effective treatments in the future.

Mark Taylor, Professor of Parasitology at LSTM, said: “This is a truly exciting discovery and could change our understanding of the millions of infections caused by parasitic nematodes. Finding an RNA virus in any organism is significant, because these types of viruses are well-known agents of disease. When these worms that live inside of us release these viruses, they spread throughout the blood and tissues and provoke an immune response.

“This raises the question of whether any of the diseases that these parasites are responsible for could be driven by the virus rather than directly by the parasitic nematode.”

Impact of Viruses on Nematode-Induced Diseases

Parasitic nematodes including hookworms and whipworms can cause severe abdominal problems and bloody diarrhea, stunted development, and anemia. Infection with filarial worms can lead to disfiguring conditions such as lymphoedema or ‘elephantiasis’, and onchocerciasis, or ‘river blindness’, that leads to blindness and skin disease.

The study authors propose that these newly identified viruses may play a role in some of these conditions. For example, Onchocerciasis-Associated Epilepsy (OAE) that occurs in children and adolescents in Sub-Saharan Africa has recently been associated with onchocerciasis, but it is not known why this causes neurological symptoms such as uncontrollable repeated head nodding, as well as severe stunting, delayed puberty and impaired mental health.

One of the viruses in the parasites that cause onchocerciasis identified in the new study is a rhabdovirus – the type that causes rabies. The authors of the study suggest that if this virus is infecting or damaging human nerve or brain tissue, that could explain the symptoms of OAE.

The full extent and diversity of the viruses living in parasitic nematodes, how they impact nematode biology and whether they act as drivers of disease in people and animals now requires further study.

Researcher’s Personal Motivation and Future Studies

The illuminating discovery of these widespread yet previously hidden viruses was first made by Dr. Shannon Quek, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at LSTM and lead author of the new study, who had initially been using the same data mining method to screen for viruses within mosquitoes that spread disease, before deciding to investigate nematodes.

Dr. Quek, who is from Indonesia, a country burdened by many parasitic nematodes, said: “As a child, I saw a lot of people infected with these diseases and I suffered from the dengue virus on three occasions. That got me interested in tropical diseases. Diseases caused by parasitic nematodes are very long-term, life-long illnesses that persistently affect people. It has a significant impact on people’s quality of life, their economic outputs, and mental health.

“There are a lot of studies about the microbiomes of mosquitoes, and how the bacteria that lives inside can block the spread of viruses, which might stop vector-borne diseases like dengue. This interplay between organisms in the same host led me to think – what else might be inside parasitic nematodes as well? Which after my discovery will now be the focus of our research.”

Have always wondered why Medicine Classifies Cysts as Benign Cysts and Cancerous Cyst after Biopsy. A Cyst is an abnormal Growth visible on the body. Abnormal Growth of Cells whether Benign or not needs to be investigated further and monitored to prevent the Benign Cyst from becoming Cancerous?

Nucleic (RNA) driven Viruses are a new area of research and finding Anti Viral Compounds to address the same should be a priority. Remember reading about the bark of trees having such properties.

Our lives mean less then nothing to the those who control the world. I know it sounds crazy but hear me out. They hid away natural medicine and replaced it with medicine that does not work. Greed has made them selfish and have no compassion. We work and before we get paid we are taxed 25% Everything we buy we pay an additional 10% tax. Everything we sell we pay an additional 10% tax.
Finish paying a house, you are taxed a property tax for infinity. On a property you already paid taxes on.
We are forced to pay social security for our retirement. When the time comes, they find any and every reason not to give it back. They drag it out in hopes you die before you can collect. They do the income verification before the medical.
Why?, when it’s the medical review portion that makes most people ineligible. Wouldn’t it be more logical to do the medical before the income verification, the income verification would not be needed.in most cases They intentionally drag it out as long as they can, in hopes you die before you can collect, because when you die. They don’t give your retirement money to your family or a charity. They keep it. If you owe the IRS, State Franchise, EDD, Welfare, etc? As soon as you fall behind on a payment, most of what you pay goes to penalties/interest whatever they want to call it, for as long as they can. If you owe 1,000 dollars, in one year you will owe double. Numbers aren’t exact but do you see my point. If you owe back taxes, they can collect 10 years back. If they owe you? You can only go back 3 years

I got my vaccine 10/22, legs swelled 3 weeks of 4 starting 01/23. It continued > 7/23 progressively/aggressively where I was cleared having ” perfect health/lungs/teeth-mouth/liver-kidneys-heart-etc. & NO Diabetes like peer- employees insisted was prevalent. 09/01 randomly vomited 7x a grey-brown spaghetti’esk never before observed within my life*period.
Paying the utmost attention to Detail, small staple-sized [ ~maybe 1cm length/ ~0.5mm diameter (?)] Pinkish worms were aside vomit pile in sink (so random-sudden I had no other option beside my floor). 3 days later I felt/ saw V-Shaped Tailed worm-like shaped ‘phenomena’. Healthy, 220lbs 6’2″… into anemic, anxiety, ER in 7 zipcodes multiple x being told to seek Psychiatric help; 17 days w/ Psychiatric meds first night but denied next 16 because I’m not mentally ill. 6 specialists now because it’s progressing so fast. 3x daily libido turned into needing max Cypionate testosterone prescribed, levithyroxine due to hyperthyroidism, now rheumatoid 40% below minimal 15, hemoglobin way too low, RBCs too low, etc forever I could list it seems. No diagnosis per many many Psychiatric team that I met with M-F in which grew 4x to inc. Specialists/ new introspection.
I haven’t been sick nor seen any MD in 19 years, yet paid max amount for best insurance coverage in the case I smashed into a tree mountain biking/ Snowboarding/ driving/ etc. And never (luckily) had to utilize it. Then my septic system backed up after felling a leaning Hemlock ( Gig Harbor WA) and crushed drain-field clay piping. I thought I might have had schistosomiasis, but nobody gives 1 phó’-k period regardless of the exact situation in which it’s derived.
I don’t know what to do; but I agree with you and am so sorry you too have to suffer through.

Back in the old days people dewormed there children and all there animals. Ivermectin kills parasites and there is natural things you can take . I forget which ones , just google. Parasites is probably 70 percent of our problems with health or at least that’s my own personal thoughts. The doctors go by the same text book and they walk a straight line. They are educated but fall short when it comes to parasites in the body…… they just want to put a bandaid over the problem instead of getting to the source….. Hope yall get the help you need.

How can you know for sure? You’ve got a parasite. Seeing it go up your veins to your neck. Just go to a doctor and say you’re not feeling well. Don’t tell them what you have and that you’re sure. Let them do test. Don’t tell them you’re sure you got a parasite from a bird. Don’t tell them anything. Let them do tests to find out what’s wrong with you

It does absolutely no good to seek help from a doctor, they learn little to nothing about this in school, There’s only a handful of parasitologist in the US. You can order the above drugs from overseas if you look and also the herbal remedy requires your time studying. I’ve got hundreds of hours into this so don’t give up
