Gravity is a fundamental force of nature that attracts two bodies towards each other. It is one of the four fundamental forces in the universe, alongside the electromagnetic force, the strong nuclear force, and the weak nuclear force. Gravity is most perceptibly observed as the force that gives weight to physical objects and causes them to fall toward the ground when dropped. The force of gravity between two objects depends on their masses and the distance between them, as described by Isaac Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation. Albert Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity further refined the understanding of gravity, describing it not as a force but as a curvature of spacetime caused by mass and energy. This theory explains more complex gravitational phenomena such as the bending of light around massive objects. Gravity plays a crucial role in the structure and evolution of the universe, influencing the orbits of planets, the formation of stars and galaxies, and the behavior of cosmic phenomena such as black holes.
