The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the most powerful space observatory ever built, designed to peer deeper into the universe than ever before. Launched in December 2021, JWST is a collaboration between NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), and CSA (Canadian Space Agency). It orbits the Sun about a million miles from Earth and uses a massive gold-coated mirror and advanced infrared instruments to study the earliest galaxies, the birth of stars and planets, and the atmospheres of distant exoplanets. By capturing light that has traveled billions of years, JWST is transforming our understanding of the cosmos—from the origins of the universe to the potential for life beyond Earth.
