NASA’s Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere (PUNCH) mission is designed to study the outer corona of the Sun and the solar wind as it expands into space. Scheduled for launch in 2025, PUNCH consists of four small satellites that will work together to provide a continuous, wide-field view of the Sun’s outer atmosphere and its transition into the solar system. The mission aims to improve our understanding of how the solar corona connects to the solar wind, how coronal mass ejections (CMEs) propagate, and how solar activity influences space weather. By capturing detailed images of the solar wind and CMEs in visible light, PUNCH will help scientists develop better predictive models for space weather events that can impact Earth and human technology.
