The University of Würzburg, officially known as Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU), is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in Germany, founded in 1402. It is located in Würzburg, Bavaria and boasts a rich academic tradition, particularly strong in fields such as medicine, psychology, and law. The university has made significant contributions to the scientific world; for example, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered X-rays here in 1895, an achievement for which he received the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.
