Osteoporosis is a medical condition characterized by weakened bones, making them fragile and more susceptible to fractures. This bone-thinning disorder typically progresses without symptoms until a bone fracture occurs, commonly affecting the spine, hip, and wrists. It is most prevalent among older adults, particularly postmenopausal women, due to lower estrogen levels which play a significant role in maintaining bone density. However, men and younger people can also be affected, especially if they have certain risk factors such as prolonged use of steroids, low body weight, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, or a family history of osteoporosis.
