Borophene is a crystalline atomic monolayer of boron (two-dimensional allotrope of boron) that exhibits in-plane elasticity and ideal strength. In some configurations, boron sheets can be stronger and more flexible than graphene. Borophene was first predicted by theory in the mid-1990s and experimentally confirmed in 2015.
