Europa News

Europa is one of Jupiter’s largest moons and is known primarily for its potential to harbor life due to its subsurface ocean. Discovered by Galileo Galilei in 1610 along with three other moons of Jupiter, Europa is slightly smaller than Earth’s moon and is notably characterized by its smooth, icy surface, which is crisscrossed by a network of streaks and ridges. These features are likely created by the tidal flexing exerted by Jupiter’s gravity, which heats Europa’s interior and maintains its ocean beneath an ice shell that may be several kilometers thick.
