XRISM (X-ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission) is a collaborative space mission between JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and NASA, with contributions from the European Space Agency (ESA) and other international partners. Scheduled for launch in the mid-2020s, XRISM aims to explore the universe through high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy and imaging. The mission’s primary goals include studying the dynamics of galaxy clusters, the chemical composition of cosmic structures, and the behavior of matter in extreme environments such as black holes and neutron stars. XRISM will feature two main instruments: Resolve, a high-resolution X-ray spectrometer, and Xtend, a wide-field X-ray imager. These instruments will enable scientists to observe X-ray emissions with unprecedented clarity, providing critical data to deepen our understanding of the high-energy universe and the physical processes that govern it.
